Introductions
Hey there, internet stranger! Welcome to my blog!
For some reason, you’ve decided to click on the blue
link to my blog, and whether it’s by accident or not, I believe that it is Fate
himself that has brought you here today. Maybe it’s because you want to know
more about UCSI University; or maybe you’re here because you’re good with
numbers, and people told you about Actuarial Science; or maybe you’re here
because you’re just bored…
But first things first, let me introduce myself. I'm
Yen Qi, an Actuarial Science student currently studying at UCSI University. I’m
from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. At the time of writing, I am a little shy of 20
years old, and currently in the first year of my undergraduate degree.
Besides classes, most of my time is spent preparing
for my preliminary papers, attending co-curricular activities, hanging out with
friends and family, and doing some of my hobbies.
What I’ve described above sounds nothing like how
you’d expect your university life to be, does it? It probably reminds you of
high school, and you were 100% ready to leave it all behind as soon as you
graduated.
Besides having more responsibilities, you’ll also be
expected to handle your own finances, work well together with your assignment
group members, network with future colleagues and professionals in your field, work
towards your goals and aspirations all while passing your courses with a decent
GPA, getting a good night’s sleep and maintaining a good mental health.
Sound daunting, doesn’t it? With the heavy workload,
where’s the time for parties, for clubbing, or even for dating?
Well, the good news is that it is possible to achieve
all of them. You just have to learn to manage your time wisely, albeit with
much less guidance. If you’re far away from family, you’ll need to trust and
work together with your friends more than ever.
You’ll need to be disciplined. Set a goal, commit,
stay focused, and don’t give up easily.
And sometimes if your focus slips, your motivation
wanes, or an unexpected obstacle arises, it’s okay to take a break. It’s okay
to lean on others from time to time.
As long as you’re able to stay on track, you’ll be
fine.
After all, university is the perfect playground for
you to try new things and meet new people from all walks of life. It is also
the perfect chance for you to grow and mature as a person before being thrust
into adulthood.
Life as a university student is tough and stressful,
but it can also be fun and interesting. Like all things in life, balance is the
key. Work hard, have fun, and try a little bit of everything. Depending on how
you approach it, your university years can become some of the best years of
your life.
The purpose of this blog is to give you a glimpse into
my life, specifically about my life as a student aspiring to become a certified
Actuary. The journey may be full of bumps and pitfalls, but one day I’ll reach
my destination, and I hope you’ll still be here with me too!
